Chips' Fun House ~ View topic - First Match for -[CfH]- Tonight...Part Deux

Due to the forfeit of our opponent last week, our guild team will once again have a try at their first match in the STA 5on5 League. We are currently part of what's called a "screening ladder". The purpose of this screening ladder is to ensure we can run the match according to their rules...with HLTV running and recording and a program called RingerFree connected and monitoring the server.

A match consists of two rounds...one on each team's server. Our first round is on our opponents ([B] Barons of Darkness) server. The second on ours.

So...

Sometime around 10:45 eastern time, I will take down the main server and convert it for use in our match. Matches are only 35 minutes...so this should not be a major inconvenience.

In the future, HLTV will be provided for those wanting to watch the match on our home server. If you can't play on the server for 35 minutes...at least you can watch us compete if you wish.

I say "in the future" because for tonight, HLTV will only be provided for the two team captains (required by STA rules) and will be password protected. I want to make sure we get through the "technical" stuff okay during our first match. Then I'd feel more confortable allowing up to 20 others to watch on HLTV. Please remember, the screening ladder is there to make sure we can pull off the match with all of STA's requirements. Since we haven't yet played a full match under these rules, HLTV won't be available for others in our community.

This is getting rather annoying, we get another win by forfeit.

That sucks...

Yeah...it's turning into a big letdown. You get geared up an psyched...you go to the other teams IRC room to find only one player bitching about how his team just broke up and they can't find their leader. Shocked

There are apparently no other teams left on the screening ladder. I have no idea how we'll show our ability to hold a match if we have no opponents.

I've made a request to a STA admin to simply put us into the bronze division...their lowest. He said he'll make an argument for us with the other admins...we'll see.

We've been ready for two matches and certainly don't have a group skill level above Bronze, so....

I would anticipate having your request granted, especially if there are no other teams in the SL. Also, it doesn't serve STA at all to have a gung ho group keep showing up and not give them a shot, whatever it takes.

Yeah no giving up! Soon enough you will be playing in matches. The first match is always the one you will be most nervous about. It will come.

We should just play eachother until then, that'd be fun.
