Or has it?

I went to the mall a few days ago, and there were more employees than shoppers. I found out my favorite stores went out of business. B. Daldon's, Brookestone, Cinnabun....

pretty horrible

We've lost some stores I used to call home as well...a shame really. Many mom & pop stores in my town have gone under. Lots of storefronts for rent.

Since I'm still gainfully employed, I've found bargains galore at stores that are still open. Retailers are practically giving stuff away at some places. So, I suppose it's been personally good to me...so far.

Yeah I've found unbelievable bargains on everything lately. I'm in the process of replacing all of my furniture. Thinkin of getting a new car, too.

Alot of major retailers in my area went out of business. The local mall is losing some of their stores as well.

Places like Borders and Suncoast went under, and obviously the Mervyns that we had went out as well.

Unfortunately, here in California; the unemployment rate is upwards of 11% and my county alone is around 10%. Since i'm 20 with no experience in sales, I can't get any retail job, and even fast food places are letting people go and/or not accepting people because they need to either cut back on hours or are at max for their store / district. A few of my friends were "let go" from their jobs because of downsizing...

I'm screwed out of a job until I can either graduate college or go into a craftsman or trade profession.

It's tough over here in the Bay Area. I've been trying to find work back in upscale restaurant management, and it's bleak. There are few jobs, and lots of qualified people applying. To make the ends sorta meet, I've been working as a photographer's assistant for a pro photographer. I basically retouch photos half-naked women. The pay is very low, but it's a job, and pretty steady. I'm considering waiting tables again, but I'm not sure if I wanna do that. I'm at a pivot point. I'm really sick of being broke, but I don't wanna hustle for my money. We'll see.

I haven't worked since September except for the 3 weeks last month that I worked at the Nuc plant near me that does a shutdown every 2 years for a small amount of time. I think I was one of the only ones that could pass a drug and crim backgroup test to get badged to work there. For roughly 20 ish days I worked from 6 in the afternoon to 6 in the morning (12 hours) 6 days a week oh yea i was also being exsposed to radiation the whole time, but hey it was work and provided me with a cushion of money in the bank incase I need it and the unemployment stops coming in.

Everyone's hurting right now. Everyone's getting affected, one way or another.

lost the only job i've had that i genuinely loved, at Sears selling in hardware, to the store closing... but i got a lot of CHEAP craftsman tools and a Nikon D40 DSLR camera for half the price. spent 3 weeks unemployed before i got a job at Walmart, which pays slightly better, but it's not commissioned pay, and it's.. Walmart...
