Right, so my avatar disappeared... dunno why... so I go to replace it... I find that the avatar rules changed to be super restrictive:

Did you notice how old that post is.  
That's always been the case. Those that have larger avatars host them off site and link to them. That bypasses the forums controls. Same with signatures...some choose to stretch my recommendations there as well. 
I guess what people don't realize is that large graphics slow page loading for some readers. This is a way to keep it at a usable level for all. Also, the post right under that one details how uploading pics to the forums is currently borked anyway. I never have had the time to look into it. Peeps can either link to an off site avatar or pick one from the hundreds that are available on the board.
