Also known as Chinese New Year.

Today marks the end of the Year of the Pig and the Year of the Rat begins. The Year of the Rat will last until January 26th, 2009, when the Year of the Ox begins.

The Lunisolar calendar is different than the Gregorian calendar that we use for everyday life, and because of this, the Chinese New Year is not the same as our normal New Year. If you we're born in either January or February, you may NOT be the animal you think you are; you will have to check the Lunisolar calendar (below) to figure it out. Each year also comes with an element and a specific side of the Yin-Yang. Born in July of 1988, I was born Year of the Dragon, Yang Earth.

* If the year ends in 0 it is Yang Metal.
* If the year ends in 1 it is Yin Metal.
* If the year ends in 2 it is Yang Water.
* If the year ends in 3 it is Yin Water.
* If the year ends in 4 it is Yang Wood.
* If the year ends in 5 it is Yin Wood.
* If the year ends in 6 it is Yang Fire.
* If the year ends in 7 it is Yin Fire.
* If the year ends in 8 it is Yang Earth.
* If the year ends in 9 it is Yin Earth.

Year of the Rat - February 15th, 1972 through February 2nd, 1973
Year of the Ox - February 3rd, 1973 through January 23rd, 1974
Year of the Tiger - January 24th, 1974 through February 10th, 1975
Year of the Rabbit - February 11th, 1975 through January 30th, 1976
Year of the Dragon - January 31st, 1976 through February 17th, 1977
Year of the Snake - February 18th, 1977 through February 6th, 1978
Year of the Horse - February 7th, 1978 through January 27th, 1979
Year of the Sheep - January 28th, 1979 through February 15th, 1980
Year of the Monkey - February 16th, 1980 through February 4th, 1981
Year of the Rooster - February 5th, 1981 through January 24th, 1982
Year of the Dog - January 25th, 1982 through February 12th, 1983
Year of the Pig - February 13th, 1983 through February 1st, 1984
Year of the Rat - February 2nd, 1984 through February 19th, 1985
Year of the Ox - February 20th, 1985 through February 8th, 1986
Year of the Tiger - February 9th, 1986 through January 28th, 1987
Year of the Rabbit - January 29th, 1987 through February 16th, 1988
Year of the Dragon - February 17th, 1988 through February 5th, 1989
