I'm in the market for a new computer and I've found a really good place with a computer that I think would suit me. I just need some advice on the specifications and whether it is worth getting the smaller upgrades and which is the best processor/motherboard bundles.
I was thinking of getting the 4400+ because it is mid range in price. Is this a good processor?
Should I get an upgrade to the videocard too?
I'll be kicking windows to the kerb but taking on the 400gig HD and the 22inch monitor for sure.
Take a look at it here: http://www.msy.com.au/SYSTEMS/Amdgame-3.pdf
To get USD prices just imagine +10% on everything. |

its a little confusing to read, how much are you spending? the price next to the 4400(the processor youre thinking of)?
and yes i would upgrade the video card. you could spend a few more bucks and get a 8600gt which is dx10 and will give you about 2 times the fps. |

The understanding I have of the PDF is that you pick the processor you want with the package and then you can go through and upgrade the package with the options from the bottom. You do get all the items listed 1 to 20 before the options list. So its 1035 if I went with the 4400+ and then however much for the options that are chosen.
As for price wise, I've got no adversion to spending $1500 or a little more on the system. What I'm concerned with though is the value for money aspect. For instance I can't see the point of upgrading to the 500gig HD over the 400gig.
Is there any real difference between the 256 mb and the 512 mb car video card? |

Huge difference in 256 to 512.
Always do your own research on the upgrade price. Know the price of a 400 gig and 500 gig drive and you'll know if the upgrade is worth it. If it's not, take the 400 and buy another drive a year from now when you actually need it. Prices will have come down and you're not spending on something you don't need. |

Yeah with a price range of 1500 fox, i would say buy parts from newegg and have someone build you one if you can find someone. you can get a much stronger computer for a cheaper price than on that site like that. I tried to look up your parts on newegg last night but it was hard because some of the parts werent specific enough for me to know which ones you would be getting.
On the difference in 256 and 512, im going to have to slightly disagree with you on that one happy. If you check out benchmark lists for video cards you will notice that same cards with a difference in memory of 256 and 512(any difference really), really dont have that much of a difference for it to be considered anything huge. Also you will notice that the same card 256 gddr4 outperforms the same card that has 512 gddr3. The 7600gs only gets gddr2. At least opt for the 7600gt, its got a faster core clock and its gddr3 memory is almost double the memory clock of the gs. |

Tiger would make a terrible communist if he treats everyone as unevenly as he bakes his cookies. |

Old computer in the foreground with the small monitor sitting on top. I haven't moved across any of my music or important files yet so I'm keeping it up and running until I get everything sorted out on this new machine.
Everything is so very messy.
