That's for spyware though, not virus. I use AVG Free for virus, and it works pretty well.

Antivir, Avast, AVG Free

Here are some reviews:

http://www.firewallguide.com/anti-virus.htm

http://news.softpedia.com/news/Stop-Viruses-For-Free-37956.shtml

Not all the best reviews but some good info. I have AVG on 2 PCs in my home and Avast on my game system but may be switching to Antivir for the game system.

If you have Comcast like I do you may be able to get McAfee for free like I did. I know they were giving it to their customers a while back, but im not sure if it is still going on.

Free stuff that i have used is Ewideo and AVG, but i think they are one and the same now.

I'm using AVG these days...just switched over several months back. I was a long time Norton user...I've never had problems with it that I've read others have had. If you tweak it right, it'll treat you fine and is a good product. I just got tired of paying for updates every year. Razz

That said, what you need depends on your online habits. If you file share, troll newsgroups and visit crack sights all the time, you'll need strong, well configured anti virus software if you do that kind of surfing.

I use AVG on 4 machines on a home network with windows firewall. I use that because I have a firewall on my router as well. Together, they are fine for our online needs.

I know nothing of avg security, but their antivirus program that is for free is excellent. Perhaps you wonder why its free then? The only difference I have been able to find is that the updates come later than the paid version (by days) and you can't use the scheduling feature with all its functions. Frankly, these things are trivial to me anyway.

As for norton, its horrendous. Slow, bloated software, that doesn't work half the time (in my experience on my own desktop). I've heard great things about Norton Corporate from work though, they say its nothing like the version available to home end users.
