If you think 2fort is nice, or that the maps that came with FF are nice......you aint seen nothing yet.
I for one never liked the map BADLANDS.....but I saw it and just wanted to see it. Sadly, the server it was on didnt allow downloading. Lo & behold, on the FF forums was the link for it.
So I d/led it, and went to the server and I have to say......shame it wasnt in the initial map pack for in my opinion, the best FF map BY FAR!!!
The atmosphere for it, and the darkness is simply unbelivable.
Now, what good would all this be without the linkiepoo????

In the case of badlands, the mapper himself put it on both the FF forums and the website.
As for the leaker of 2fort_dev.......it wasnt 'leaked'.... it was put right up on pub servers. Along with 3 or 4 other maps that werent included in the mod release.
Hell....if its on a pub server, its fair game as far as Im concerned. |

2fort, is not completed, it's nothing but a cylinder with the credits to Fortress Forever plastered all over...
And as for installing ff_dev_2fort; I'm gonna have to say the following...

Just because it's free doesn't mean it's released. The map isn't supposed to be released yet and some asshole of a beta tester that is just a prick decided that it's his absolute right to release property that isn't his. He didn't even make the ****ing map and he's giving it away as if it we're his map to release. |

Anshin, relax.....I mean, its not like any of us got the files from some back door in an alley. The servers were listed along with all the others.
Personally, I went to one that had the 2fort_dev simply as I thought well hell.....maybe they expect people to join to help critique it. For my next rational was.....if they didnt want us in there, it would be PWed.
Before ya knew it, half a dozen sites already had the map listed in their d/l sections.
Same scenario went for Badlands.....although I'll admit I looked for the files on the FF forums simply because I recognized the server name hosting it.....the .LoM server. Again I figured, the server wasnt PWed, but the server wasnt allowing direct downloads. And since the LoM server is a known server, hey, maybe the files are sitting on the forums somewhere.
Lo & behold, the guy that made that particular map released the beta ON the FF forums, and supplied the link to it with the quote "let me know what you think of it"
Sorry Anshin....but while I see your point of trying to keep the secrets in house......you cant get angry at the people that innocently got them. |

ff_dev_2fort wasn't innocently obtained. SolidSteel114 leaked a beta map to his friends that was not supposed to be released. It's not a question of "if they don't want us to play it they can PW it;" because if that's the case then it would still be only in the beta which is still going on as we are still trying to fix bugs. The point is the map was LEAKED, not "innocently" released.
That, and badlands, while beta, was released, the map author released it publicly which is entirely different than stealing someone else's work and releasing it without their permission. |

Ok, maybe the guy you mentioned leaked it, I cant argue that because somehow it got out. But like I said, the fact that some of us now have it is BECAUSE it got leaked.....we had nothing to do with it. Cant fault us because we saw it and innocently joined the server not knowing what the deal was.
Like I said, sure...blame the leak guy....but surely not those of us that were just curious and wanted to see all its goodness.  |

No point in running the map anyway...no flags, packs or armor. Like Anshin said...it's just a shell. It will be fun to DM on it though until the finished product arrives.  |

| Testing...just me. Checking the admin tools installed and a plugin or two. I need to restart the server numerous times...whenever a change is made. No sense in having a bunch of people on it and constantly have to enter the game. Almost done. |
