Also...I've never used Nvidia products...that card is supposed to be kind of low end DX 10 capable. I'd like thoughts on that card especially.

Furthermore, didn't you know that speakers are required to hear audio from your system?

I could be wrong, but that processor seems a little low-end considering the rest of the system? Also, will that be enough HD space? And integrated audio sucks. Sound cards are fun, I'd recommend a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro if you can afford to drop around $275 for fantastic sound.

No one uses floppy drives any more. Laughing Although, they have come in handy for those nasty system crashes. I'm only getting integrated sound cause I didn't like any of their options for sound...a soundblaster high end gaming card was all they offered at a rediculous price. I'll pick something out elsewhere and plop it in myself. I have a beautiful 5.1 speaker system...I don't need anything they offered. Same with keyboards and mice...I'm all set there and will just take the trash they throw on the pile.

This goes for $1,419.00 ... a little more than I wanted to spend. I hadn't realized what stuff costs these days, working with a five year old desktop currently. Surprised A little faster processor and memory, little more drive space...etc. I'd much prefer this one. Definitely gonna check out some other places as well. My last two desktops were custom built...I'm just checking out what these guys offer.

Audigy 4 is not a consumer sound card, it's for audio production. Anything Creative makes blows anyway (I miss Nvidia's Soundstorm).

And 2.2GHz would be low end if he was getting a Pentium 4.

I don't really like Dells, they use those proprietary motherboards which is pretty much impossible to upgrade (don't know about now though) and they pack so much crap in for software. And their support sucks also.

I dunno Mr Chips. Why you would buy a box from a company is beyond me. I mean geez....pick out the key components you want, fill in the rest and order it up, then put it together.
If you arent intune with building a rig yourself then geez.......grab 3-4 Snapple Ice Teas and call me.....Im what, 20 minutes from ya?

Add to that about $40 for a new KB, Mouse, the media reader is under $20
Tack on $50 for a decent case and lastly about $125ish for a middle of the road motherboard for roughly a grand total of $780......the only thing left is to get Vista. Im not sure but, I thought Vista was a true 64 bit system, and if so, Im not sure it runs all the games we currently have.....although, maybe you are able to set it up in 32-bit.

Gimme a few minutes and I'll see what I can come up with in the bduget you speak of.

The monitor included is a good thing. Monitors are always so pricy.

Also, are you planning on having an extra PC in your house or not? If you are, I'd say go for it. If not, it might be cheaper to just upgrade the hell out of the compy you have now.

Note, no monitor......basically 19" flat screens are on the order of under $200. Plus, we have enough local stores here Chips that Id probably go get that on my own.
Not sure if I would switch to Vista myself......personally I wont until I absolutely have to.

Also note, a couple of these parts can be toned down, although, the motherboard I chose is there for a reason. Its considered the prime gamers motherboard, and can also use the Duo Extreme cpus, plus it can also handle the Quad cores, should you decide to upgrade it later on.

Also, Id add a new SATA DVD drive.....roughly $40. (Im assuming you're gonna save your old rig)
You can easily add or subtract $100 on the video alone.
Also, according to the BFG techs I spoke with, the 650 watt power supply can handle the newest vid cards like the one I have, but Im contemplating buying a second one....thus, I chose their 800W one......but its a bit pricey and dont feel you would need it.

And yes, Newegg is a vicious place for me to visit. Laughing

Final note Chips......you're right, things are pricey.....Id hate to see you spend over $1000 on a rig thats not upgradable nor made with the better components......but....you come up with your ultimate price range and Im sure I can hook you up with the right stuff.

Oh, and FYI.......whats not included in that pricing total you have to minus $70 for the rebates.....thus, total for this so far is $1181.45 with shipping and tax.

Add that all up for me Toughy...I'm far too lazy. I'd rather have someone build it and give me a 3 year warranty like the place I bought my last one...CyberPower: $1,662.00. This is two 20" monitors and more of everything...IMO.

If you are getting an X-Fi, the Xtreme Audio does not have a real X-Fi APU. Get the Xtreme Music instead.

You should probably go 64-bit also.

Not really interested in 64 bit Snick...and that's the only SB card they offered that wasn't an LE version.

Toughy...that whole rig was configured piece by piece...WITH FREE SHIPPING !!!!

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/computer_buyer.asp
I chose Mega Special III and went from there. Good Idea

These folks built my last machine...good rig still going strong 5 years later. Good Idea

Ok, went to the site and here are my recommendations.....
Add the $5 and specify the eVGA card.....lifetime warranty FTW !!!
Only drawback on the motherboard is single PCI-e, thus, you cant add a 2nd vid card.....shouldnt be a problem though. (Although I wonder WTF you'll do with dual monitors) Laughing Laughing Thus, no 2nd vid card = the power supply is good to go!!!

Note, if you are going to be burning copies of DVDs, Id stay away from the Sony ones.....they are well known to incorporate the latest in anti-piracy techniques. I personally have used Lite-On drives for the past 5 years and welll, lets just say I have an collection that can rival my local Blockbusters. Laughing
Quote:
LiteOn LH-20A1H 20X Double Layer DVD+-RW Super Allwrite + Lightscribe Technology(Black Color)[+0]More Color...

Also note......the newer motherboards only have 1 IDE channel, thus, you wont be piggy backing your old hard drives into this rig if you opt to put in both a DVD and a CD drive.

As for Snickers advice for the sound card, I personally use headphones religiously, thus, the on board thats on the Asus boards is fine.....so go with your gut on that one as Im tone deaf and couldnt care less as long as my MP3s play. Laughing

Other then that, excellant deal there Mr Chips. With the warranty they provide, I think you'll be extremely happy with that rig. (Although, I still dont know why you would want Vista.....thought us old people didnt like CHANGE.) Laughing

The extra $5 sounds reasonable...especially for what you get. Laughing
The second monitor is for my kids. My current DVD writer is a Sony...never had problems writing any content. I do know what you mean though. I won't be adding another HD with the size of that one. I've always liked a separate one of the OS though.

Vista is the future...and it cost less than XP PRO. Surprised

Discussing this with the wife as we speak. Rolling Eyes
