So i talked to my buddy that owns a computer store yesterday and told him what i want to buy to make a new machine and well he said he has been waiting for me to ask this.

The specs i told him are as follows.

CPU: 3.2 (We are going to overclock it Very Happy )
Memory: 2 one gig sticks at least.
Video cards: Duel top of the line ATI SLIs with crossfire. Good Idea (he said both cards will run me about 1200 dollars or so.)
HDs: 2 SATA 10,000 RPM drives as big as he can get for good money.

and we are working on plans for a wall of at least 10 case fans to blow across the mobo. 3 exhaust fans at least, and more stuff that i can think of to fit into the machine.

The only thing that I havent decided on is a case to use. He has a Antec case that can do the job but im not sure if i want to go with another case or not.

So basically this machine is going to own on TFC. Basically RL hacks lol.wav Very Happy Good Idea

You can pretty much play TFC on a Commodore 64. Confused

But...that will be a hell of a rig to run HL2 and games of that graphic nature. Noice ... Cool

Be sure to get a power supply 550 watts or greater (Preferabley 650). Also, I build my companies Engineering PC's with this case:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811129149

The Antec SLK1650. If you need more room, try this one...

I use this one to build servers (Antec SLK3800B)....

You're system sounds killer dood, but ask him about using the XEON Woodcrest chip that Intel just released a week or so ago. It's faster than the Athlon 64 X2's and cheaper. Be sure to say WOODCREST though... As of last week the only suppliers to carry the woodcrest were ASIPartner.com, and the Synnex company.

Check this out...

yeah, i agree with the power supply statement from above. your machine, which sounds exceptional, will be a power hog, be sure to look into getting a case (i prefer server cases) to have lots of breathing room, and possibly 2 large power supplies, or one if you can work it out that way. sounds like a tfc killer!

An aluminum case is the way to go for overclocking. They are cooler and lighter. We prefer the Lian li cases. They are just built better. Things seem to fit better, they have the nice side open doors, & they come with a nice bag of goodies (like thumb screws). They aren't the fanciest I've seen, but once you've had one - you'll know what I mean.

As to power supplies we don't usually buy anything but Enermax. 2nd to that - we're starting to try Antex - TRUE POWER. Once you've had a motherboard that really draws on the +3 rails and start comparing the wattages on the ps - you'll see that a lower Enermax total watts will beat many cheaper- higher wattage power supplies. Safest bet - Enermax.

Oh yea Im going with a full case. That is what he has right now that I can use. Its one of the high end antec cases with a plex side.

I am deffinatly going with a massive power supply of course Good Idea

I will have to look for the link to the specs of the computer that he just built for a customer it was insane. I belive it was a 3.7 fresh off the assembly line like 5 days after he got it delivered. it was nuts lol.

WELL DUH!
You have enough power in there to BE a 747!
SO you're getting a dual X1900 config?
You're going to need about 600w+ just for those two
Those babies really suck up some serious power.
I've got a 620w Enermax Liberty PSU
My uncle was FREAKIN' OUT when he saw it.
He couldn't believe it, He thought I was a cheapskate.

May I ask what your case is?

Hey, I never introduced my new computer specs, huh?
Well, here it is:

Asus A8N32 Deluxe
AMD 64 3700+
Corsair XMS Pro 3500 2x 1Gb
eVGA Signature Series 7900GT
160 Gb HDD
80 Gb HDD
NZXT Nemisis Elite Case.

Not as powerful as yours will be CC,
But it works fine.

BTW IS your friend the actually owner of the shop?
If so, do you get discounts?

Im not sure of the case i am going to use right now. I was thinking this morning at work that he has alot of old computers at his shop that are just lying around unused. He has about 10 or 12 Quad Xeons servers that are just in his storage area that he is never going to use and the cases are really large. They have alot of room for me to do the things that I have in mind like the wall of fans and enough room for me to make all the wires and cables fit nice and neat as well. PLus if I mess something up its not costing me that much money. If i do go with that case I was going to cut a hole in the top for an exhaust fan and do some crazy plexi-glass stuff on the side as well as some other crazy stuff that I havent even figured out yet. Very Happy

And yes he is the owner of the shop (Hes the one that hosts the server for us). I do get pretty good prices on parts as he deals with the manufactures alot of the time. He is also a authorized dealer for alot of companies like Intel ATI and Microsoft among others. He Is going to try to get me one of those Hot chick ATI posters to lol.wav Good Idea

I found my case I am using for my new machine. Im using one of the quad xeon cases that he has. These things are insane in the way they are made. They come with 8 fans with some crazy tunnel/piping thing made out of high end foam. 3!!! Power supplies! This thing ways a ton like 40 or 50 lbs plus. Basically this case is going to be awesome!

oh yea and it also has a Memory card not just memory slots. We are looking into if this will fit onto my new board and if so i will be able to put at least 16 seperate sticks of memory. So in theory if I had the the money i would be able to put 16 1 Gig sticks into my computer! Shocked Very Happy

so yea I will have to get some pics as this process continues. Good Idea

Wait, 3 power supplies?
Your friend is going to custom mount 3 PSU's in there?
That's useless overkill, unless they're 3 cheap PSU's
I don't get why, but I'm sure there' a reason beyond my curent logic.

I don't understand what you're saying in the second section.
Are you saying you've got an expansion RAM card
or one of those HDD/RAM add-on cards (Very fast!)
But 16 Gb? Wow, that's incredible.

and WE WANT PICS!
PICTURES!!!!!

BTW WTF is "High End Foam"?
Asbestos?

You wasted your money on those graphics cards, do NOT go overborne on the graphics card side before directx 10 compatible cards come out because they'll become useless soon. You could also try water cooling instead of using fans if you're up to it.
