I'm not sure what is going on but when I try to connect to IRC I get that small white box with a red x going through it (This always shows up) and I doing something wrong? Am I missing something? Or is does my computer just hates IRC? Please help Crying or Very sad

did u say no when the java thing came up? its like a license of agreement that u have to say yes to to get in

mIRC is one of several IRC clients you can download and install. IF you don't wish to or don't know how to configure one of these clients...connecting to our IRC chat room is made easy for you by clicking the "contact" link on our homepage ... www.chipsfunhouse.com. From there...just click the picture of the chicken by the flag.

A box will pop up asking whether or not you wish to allow this content...just select yes...it's perfectly safe. After that, a java applet will load and ask for a name you wish to use. Enter a name and connect...it's that simple. Good Idea

I did that but it keeps doing the same thing. At the bottom of the page it says Error on page Crying or Very sad

Take your pick, I haven't used HydraIRC much, but it's supposedly better than mIRC, I'll take a look at it after I get home from school but from my first glance(which was a while ago) I couldn't find the scripting option anywhere(which probably is ok for you).

Still not working I tried both links and downloads. I think it's my computer rather than IRC. Sad

Restrictive firewall?

Can somebody more computer literate than me look up the ports that IRC uses, and see if AvP can do some magic with his firewall on the ports?

I never understood computers. Maybe I should ask my big bro he's the computer nerd besides he was the one who built my computer.

I don't like forwarding ports on my router, and thus believe things should work without having to. I only have to forward a port with Mirc or Hydra if I want to file transfer (can accept, just can't send).

With that in mind, I would think it's your WinXP firewall, Nortan-Symantec firewall, McAfee firewall, or Zone alarm stopping you from connecting -> (personal firewall).

I just tried the java applet and it worked. Maybe you need to update your java, not only was there an Internet Explorer update for it but there was a java exploit for java versions older than 1_5_0_01.
Go to add/remove programs - uninstall what you have (Java) and re-install the new one from HERE

If you still need to forward ports-->6660-6669

If you use Firefox browser it has an irc chat client extension - Chatzilla
^^ it's pretty easy to use also.
