SB what is the make/model of your computer or your motherboard?

--> A dell or hp model # etc...
--> Or do you know your motherboard brand & model#
^^ pull the cover off and look at the motherboard.. it's serial number is on there somewhere - use a flashlight

Also what brand/type of 1gig memory did you buy?
184 pin is DDR

as somebody already started a memory topic, i guess i'll put this here instead of starting a new topic...

i've had my comp for about 2 years now, maybe a little more, so i think most of it is still "good" quality, but...a few months after my friend(who also built and overclocked it) gave it to me, i got blue screens, sometimes just plain blue, sometimes errors, etc., they went away after i "reset" my comp( initial configuration, boot discs) but they're back now, as well as my mouse problems, but thats another topic.....most recent blue screen gave me an error saying "win32k.sys", memory dump, yadda yadda, so i googled win32k.sys and found some tech troubleshooting forum where some guy was having the same problem, his was fixed by faulty ram/video card, just wondering if anybody had any input, bacause i ran a memory test and it was fine, also put video card in another comp, no problems

this is what i found, hope it helps:

"System crashes at win32k.sys is very common. You have a lot of dump reading experience and I believe that you see the a lot of footprint of win32k.sys at the stack trace of the minidumps. It is not the software of win32k.sys.

According to my record, 80% of the problem is related to faulty ram or VID. 20% is related to software such as anti-virus or firewall.

Refer the following cases and they are crashed at win32k.sys
Faulty vid
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic35211.html
Mini101405-01.dmp 50 (f97dfffe, 00000000, f97dfffe, 00000000) win32k!ttfdSemQueryFontData+7a -> win32k!GreReleaseSemaphore+a

Reseat memory module
http://www.techspot.com/vb/editpost.php?do=editpost&p=201950
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic35422.html"

From what i know, its either faulty ram, vid card ram, or win install.

Most blue screens I've seen are hardware issues or their drivers AND/OR their driver issues with g.a.m.e.s. Wink

So how does one find which piece of hardware and/or their drivers that are causing the issue? What I do -

- If anything is over-clocked - revert back to normal since the system has become unstable. TEST/TRY
- Update, Update, Update - go for the big ones first video drivers, and windows updates(like service pack2 if on XP). Look for a motherboard bios update &/or chipset update. Since you are having mouse issues - are you using a logitech? I've stopped loading logitech keyboard & mouse drivers long ago.. have they put out a decent driver yet?
- Microsoft did put out a confirmed problem HERE which looks more like an "I don't know" answer since they didn't fix it in SP2, but it references a bunch of windows open on the desktop - is this when it happens?
- look in event viewer/log under both application & system - see if there was an error/clue. Right click my computer - manage - click + next to system tools- event viewer -click on application or system - look on the right in the list. Do this especially after the blue screen.
- Try to determine what you were doing or the program you were using when the crash happened. Right after bluescreen go right into your bios and look at temps for cpu - just in case. If you find the program that is doing the crash then shutdown things while using it (like av & firewalls) - test/try.
- Worst case scenario - format & re-install windows. This is where Symantec -Norton's Ghost program pays for itself.. 20 minutes or less I can have a system back up. I have kids & their friends - they hose their windows all the time Wink

.. sorry this was L.O.N.G. Razz

Cap was a gig, latency don't mater as it is just a made up timing thing standard thingy by the industry (who also over charges, look at the lawsuit that hit today), ammount will probably be a PM or auction, he is waiting to get back on timing .......... the only real question here
