My dad wants me to get a Christmas list together. I need to get more ram (runnin on 256 right now). Im hoping to at least double to 512 or get a 1 GB stick.

Suggestions on brands etc.? Good brand at a good price maybe?

If it doesn't fry any other sticks of RAM, it's good Razz

Get at least a gig, you won't regret it.

Unless your playing something new and graphic-whoring (BF2 anyone), or unless your computer is a total piece of crap, going over 512 wont net you a damn thing.
In addition, some operating systems wont even allow you to use it. (did someone say Winblows Me....and yes, I know how to get past their limitations)
If your at 512 already, go for a DVD-burner. Same price, and you can do sooo many good things with it. Shocked

Reason for the 1G is because I'm going into a major that uses tools that demand a lot of memory. Graphics programs can really screw you when it comes to memory.

Although my dad is saying I should be asking for a notebook lol

Sox, what u say about ram just isn't true. I had 512 ram for years and I got another stick of 512 and it ran like a dream for quite some time. It definately benefits. Ram is definately as cheap as dirt. He He. A dvd burner is good too, just get a subscription to net flix and burn as many dvds as you please. Good times.

actually, 512 is a bit low for me

windows + mirc + hammer(not compiling) = near 100% RAM use...

go to www.Lickthepins.com, a forum devoted to speed boost tips and tricks.

And with the price of memory, go to a Gig. Don't think, just do it. It is the most important component to increased speed for an existing computer.
