This is what I've allways been told.....
Study for approx 20 mins at a time.
Take regular breaks.
If you just study before you go to bed, you only retain 10% of the information.
You can study to music, but quietly in the back ground. I found it distracted me too much.....
It helps to have a clean and tidy area to study in.
It's no good reading information you have to make notes as well.
Get plenty of sleep.

actually you retain more by studying before you go to bed

sleep is a process which saves and stores information

I find that studying on and off for a day, then taking a break all next day actually makes me retain more than if I just kept plowing through both days.

At least with "why in the hell??" type material like French grammar or statistics Wink

actually howling that is not true. while you sleep information saves and stores information more in a chronological order so it would start near beginning and work its way forward. thats why you wouldnt retain much information. it takes time to process everything so basically cramming doesnt input the information as well. hence why you are told to study throughout a longer time period and space things out with breaks. so yeah cauthorn=correct, however there are rare occasions when cramming can work.

I heard they added another section which to me is stupid lol...when i took it, perfect score was 1600, now i think it's 2400...I only took it once and got a 1050 which is average at that time. Only thing i did was take a SAT prep course in high school and that did enough to get me the 1050. So take a course and study a lil bit. Good Idea

If you're gonna listen to music while you study, pick something without lyrics. Classical, jazz, just something without the distraction of words. I find the Xenosaga soundtrack works really well for me. Very Happy

An essay. IMO, the most stressful part of the exam.

Biggest tip: Get an energy drink and a snack for the break. Nothing like a Red Bull and Cheetos to kill some stress.

Also- The test isn't nearly as bad as most people make it out to be.

Don't waste money on some $400 class to teach you how to take it. Take practice tests though. Also keep in mind, the test is designed for the "average" student. If you're above average (which, if you're taking the SAT at 14, I imagine is the case) don't think too much into the easier problems. IMO, it tests your ability to take the SAT more than it tests your knowledge.

If I recall correctly, at least for the math section, the difficulty scales up as you go along.

Monster + Doritos > Red Bull + Cheetos
