Just make sure you can cool off that AMD. I have an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ and she still overheats occasionally, it was really bad when I first got her.

Oh yeah, when the ac quit working my dad's pc BSOD'd because it overheated, but mine didn't even when I was playing games and stuff. And if mine can survive 100 degree heat and games, then it can survive normal use. So if you really feel like it, test it that way. Or you could just get some fans and heat sinks.

My AMD 1600+ runs a consistent 150-180 degrees for some reason, so I have to use a house fan by it to keep it marginally cool. That's my 2nd CPU though, so I don't play anything really other than TFC/CS 1.6/Starcraft on it due to that.

I forgot to mention the extra little things I shelled out a little extra for that don't show up in product summary.

Like 3 extra case fans.

Since in like 10 months I'll be living in Phoenix (probably) keeping stuff cool will be important.

Yikes.

Kingston is $93 more.

Corsair XMS High Performance Memory w/ Heat Spreader is what is $51 more...

Going with Kingston, and a few other changes...

Quote:

Not mentioned there are the basics like free HL2 DL coupon, AMD ATHLON64 CERTIFIED CPU FAN & HEATSINK + 3 EXTRA CASE FANS, Creative Labs Inspire P7800 7.1 Surround Subwoofer Speaker System (If I'm getting a good sound card, no reason to waste it on a crap 2-speaker set-up), network card, crap mouse + keyboard (tad upset there's no NONE option for this, I love my current mouse & keyboard), INTERNAL 6in1 Flash Media Reader/Writer, Windows XP, Microsoft Works 7.0 , and most importantly, MICROSOFT® FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2004. (It's 6 extra bucks, compared to like 20 in the store.)

Things look great now? Price look good too?

Keep in mind this will have to last me a while, as being a poor college student like I will soon, upgrades will be few and far between.

i would get a better vcard and just get the 3500+

Also 2 gb ram matters (bf2 eats alot of ram now...) if your gonna keep that for a long time 6600gt (futureproof unlike the x800gt) and 3500+ should be good enough dont know if you want to squeeze in the 2gb go ahead also

And corsair doesnt suck

swear to god, my A+ teacher proved to us that the colder the cpu the better by using liquid nitrogen for the cooling system. they were using a 2.2GHz intel something or other, and it boosted it to 4.5GHz! course the inside of the case was right above freezing. So, i propose we make a case out of a minifridge! if you think about it (and past the craziness of it) it will keep the computer cool, it will eliminate dust, and you can keep your drinks in the shelf above! can't beat that Cool
