In reading the steam update news yesterday about some high definition pack for this game that will be coming soon...it noted that the game itself was released on steam last week. I didn't know this. So...I hit the download button (260 megs) and hit the training room. I can tell you now not to bother with it as it's the same as regular Half Life.
I start up a game...and the fun begins. I was again reminded how Half Life, in any form, is simply a better game than HL2...period. Sure, HL2 looks sweet and the physics are amazing...but it just wasn't fun. Nor have I fell in love with any HL2 mods yet. CS is good, HL2CTF used to be good...they ruined it and Deathmatch is just boring after a few maps. Yeah, I know there's more mods for it than that...but these have turned me off to trying any of them. The hit boxes is these HL2 mods are horribly off...just makes playing them no fun. But worst, the requirements to play these games...both server and client...has left a lot of peeps out in the cold. Numerous problems will arise if your machine is not state of the art. Just look at the numbers of those still playing CS 1.6 as opposed to CS:Source. Most are not moving over to the newest version due to it's problems (hit boxes etc.) and computer requirements.
Half Life, and it's mods, are still superior in game play, excitement and just overall fun. I find them more intrigueing, tricky and never lacking in making you round every corner slowly. The graphics are appealing enough and all HL mods and games run smooth on pretty much anything above a P2. If you've played Half Life before, you should enjoy this one as well. If you haven't, you should really do that one first...then move on to this one. Just one persons opinion.
I recommend it.

my cdkey was the blueshift one.
my little bros bought hl, oposing force, cs, and blueshift retail. cs i think was the only non standard hl cdkey so we had hl, opforc, and blueshift keys, i used the blueshift one. |

Have any of you with the box ever played or finished it
I just finished this afternoon. A little short...but fun none the less. I suppose since it was kind of an expansion...it wasn't meant to be as long.
Lots of shooting, some good puzzles and a few good scares...not as many scares as HL, but enough to keep me happy. |

I wasnt all that impressed by Blue Shift. Maybe I just got tired of the story line by the time it came around. |

I've never played Blue Shift or Opposing Force for that matter. My brother said not do even get them because they aren't very good. This was when i was looking into playing CS, and I needed a cdkey or I had to buy Half-Life. lol.wav, I went to a Used/New PC game store and found Half-Life: Game of the Year Edition in the huge original box of past years. The one i got had never been opened before. Fortunately, I got a bit bored of playing CS 1.5 all the time on WON, so I started playing a little TFC. Then I decided to get Steam, which allowed me to play CS 1.6 and TFC also. I'm glad I did start playing TFC, I happened to stumble upon this fine establishment in which I could play with so many fine players. |
