I tried the RC1 version a while back. I think its a noob OS. So many prompts for stuff I already know how to do. I don't need a walkthrough because some noobs can't use a computer :s |

XP works well enough, why upgrade? |

DX10's going to be Vista only, which will force alot of people to upgrade (well, the people who want DX10 GFX anyway). Until it comes out and I build a new computer I'll stay on XP. |

As Aud said...MS will come the sad realization that Vista's "improvements" won't be worth upgrading. XP is good enough that peeps won't "need" to upgrade necessarily. XP's predecessors were so feeble, you'd do anything you could to get away from them. I've been using XP for a little over 5 years now on this machine...and I've had exactly ONE lockup around 3 years ago. It's been incredibly stable for me and I've gotten to know it well. I have no desire to even try Vista. Other than a fancy looking new interface...what does it have that I can't already do |

i got vista on my new computer in my room and it's real aggravating to me right now lol, but thats because i'm so used to XP and i dont kno it well yet...only been like 3 days. It is more protective of your s**t and it looks cooler lol, but i really dont know too much about it yet. I've read a few reviews on it though...here's one from PC Mag, which is pretty much it i guess.
PC Mag review:
Pros: Improved security. Slick Aero interface. Pervasive search. New APIs and hardware support. Better built-in apps.
Cons: Hefty hardware requirements. Minor bugs and rough edges in UI. Lack of a killer app to compel adoption. Many features also available for Windows XP users.
Bottom Line: Vista offers a lot of improvements over Windows XP, but most of them are conveniences rather than essentials
3 1/2 stars, outta 5. |

Sad sad that Windows pretty much has the video gaming market cornered, and that video game designers are obsessed with making games with the absolute best graphics possible. A year down the road, you're going to have to get Vista to play the newest games. So unless other alternatives pop up, or some dude can get away with reverse engineering DX10 for XP, you're pretty much bummed out.
Thank god that the only video game that would exist in that generation that I would buy would be something like TF3, coming out in 2015. |

At the current rate TF2's coming out,
Tf3 will never be out.
The only real reason people will buy Vista is for DX10.
It has lousy controls,
odd admin allowances
Very pricey
steep requirements
security issues
ect, ect.
Seriously, only gamers, idiots, and entrepeneurs will get any over-priced version of Vista.
So Sad, I was actually hoping for a good OS too...
XP will have to go on for 10 more years. |

Well you can have good graphics on OpenGL, just that not alot of developers even care to develop in OpenGL. |

I STRONGLY recommend staying away from vista until there is ATLEAST one service pack out, its only common sense .
Another thing to note is that when an OS is released, usually someone in the internet community creates a streamlined edition, with all the bloated junk taken out. I myself am running a version of XP where after install only takes a fraction of space the retail version does.
You can also try LASTXP, which features capabilities that are now in vista, but I don't know much about this OS, only what others say about it. |
