anyone have some suggestions for a low price Internet connection for someone who is real new to the net and computers? i bought my dad a 'puter for his birthday/fathers day and I want to get him plugged in, but he doesnt really need some crazy high speed cable or nothing and really im looking for some suggestions. I was thinking of that new Netzero 3g or some thing. Dial up is fine for him ATM. So anyone got any suggestions?

Psh....2mbps. Mine's 11mbps Razz . But seriously, I would go with NetZero for the low price connection. It's faster than normal dial-up and real cheap, I think like $15 a month or something.

Companies that operate on standard dial up accounts, but offer "faster than dialup" are using ISP side page cueing and mild compression. This makes webpages load faster, but will not have an affect on game play. Though some dial-up providers themself have a better internet connection than other providers, and that is a big distinguishing factor when it comes to speed when alot of people are on, and latency all arround.

cable pwns all, but it comes at around 60 (or higher) a month. NetZero is what we used until we got cable. i'd go with that.

regular, it's 10 bucks a month, high-speed is 15 i beleive

I actually did get Netzero for my father. He has never used a computer before so he doesnt really need fast downloads and all that stuff. All he really needs is sometihing to begin learning on. So yea I got him Netzero.

I would go with net zero. Verizon totally farked me up the wrong tree woth all their hidden fees and small print. Steam is NOT the "steaming pile of poop" if you use Verizon, Verizon IS the Steaming Pile of poop!

netzero is a re-branded nutscrape, which is strip down aol.

use this one:
http://www.softcom.net/
because speed does matter if you are getting a newb online. if its too slow then they will get bored and not learn the 'pooter pooperly.
we gots
dialup($149.40/yr),
accelerated dialup(yr+$1; $161.40)
DSL($143.40/yr, modem $99)
WiFi/fixed Wireless in Galt CA($24.95/mo wifi, $39.95/mo fixed; + hardware and install)

actually, based on your location, nevermind, try www.cwnet.com

I have Comcast Cable
I don't pay for it, so.....
We're hooked up by a custom Wi-Fi connection, so there are 3 other computers hooked up, and we can connect at the same time if we wanted to use it simaltaniously.

AOL= Always, Only Lagging

Yahoo DSL is offering 12.95/14.95 a month for a year.
We tried it for a month about a year back and really had no problems. There was no "hidden fees," fairly easy to install, and seemed fine. It actually came through our local phone company. We went back to cable because Comcast increased their download speeds, but now I see Yahoo DSL also increased theirs.

My only real complaint at the time was, they didn't give you any REAL webspace. Just an account at Geocities (garbage)... which anyone can have anyway. Smile

I have Optimum Online...supposedly the fastest cable service in the country. (7mbit down - 1.2 mbit up) They have NEVER supplied web space...and most likely never will.

There are various "flavors" of DSL...obviously paying more as the bandwidth increases. I doubt your average gamer would be happy with their lowest price service.
