If I remember correctly...go back into the room you had just come from before turning the valve. Go through the hole in grate of that room's floor...down the ladder. You'll see a round opening in the wall you can now swim up to...go through.
In the next room...break the floor boards releasing the large cable spools under them. They will float to the top...jump up on them...and out... |

I actually pulled a bunch of barrels down there and stacked them to jump through that opening...all for naught. When I got to the other side...I realized I couldn't get out that way...
This was one of only two places I got stuck for a while... |

I thought I would be there for hours.
Chip - you were absolutely correct. I found myself spending way too much time in the "valve room" and not enough time examining the previous room.
Thanks,
RiP
PS - Water Hazard here I come! |

The water hazard is the other place I got stuck. I believe it's the second gate...the one with the broken control. While facing the control...look to your right...shoot. |

Ok, I know I'm close to finishing this game, but I need some of your professional assistance to help me through the biggest bump in the road -- so far.
I'm at the stage where I have the upgraded anti-gravity gun and I am standing on a platform in the huge tower structure. Behind me is Alex, who appears to be at some control center, however she cannot hear me or see me at this point. On either side of my position are two tall beams with spheres rising up inside them. Further out in front of me is something that appears to be a large laser bubble with a person inside, and two of the large ships in the air firing at me.
I can shoot the ships and destroy them, but I cannot seem to destroy or complete this particular segment.
Long story short, I keep getting messages that the mission has failed due to time critical issues.
What and where do I need to go? My grandkids are no where near this point and I would like to finish this game in the next couple of days. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

You gotta destroy the thing in the middle, the big bubble thing, not the thing with the guy in it. You have to destroy it before the guy gets to it. If you'd like to know how, ask; I just don't want to give too much away. But find a way to destroy the big bubble directly in front of you. |

Thanks for the tip. I'll figure it out from here --- I hope.

Very interesting game and quite challenging at times.
Definately not the ending I was anticipating. Quite a let down after all the long and drawn out graphics and teasers. It appeared as though the developers were on a timeline to have the game finished and out in time for Christmas. Probably for a tidy bonus of some kind.
Also, this game seems to have run just fine on my eMachine with the integrated video chip (Intel 82845G Graphics Processor).
My personal ratings for Half Life 2 are as follows:
7 out of 10 for Graphics and Game Physics
8 out of 10 for Challenging at times
5 out of 10 for Buggy and Zero Documentation

Yeah...I didn't like the ending either. And I felt the game overall, was easier than HL1.
Bob...if you're just getting into this game and haven't played the original Half-Life...I suggest you do. |

I don't think they were cutting corners to get it out by christmas. After all... they originally said it would be out in September(i think) the YEAR before. So they were about 15 months late as it is. lol |

I have played - and completed - the first Half Life. I was first turned onto it about 3 years ago after one of my grandsons left it on the computer. It was challenging and took me about 8-10 months to complete since I was not playing it every day like some of you perhaps
Game on!

The second time is very, very difficult. You can try blocking a few of the entrances with some of the barrels, and get those guys with xbow/magnum. They don't start coming untill the final turret has been set. |
