Did it show before?
Are you behind a router?
When the server first starts...the console will say "downloading security module". When that is done...the console will say" server is in secure mode". If you don't get this message, it won't show in the server browser.
Answer these 3 questions, then we'll move on from there. |

1) it did show before, but i messed something up so used hlsdupdatetool again downloaded the stuff again and got rid of all the old stuff
2)i am using a router
3) and no when the server first starts the HLDS console doesn't say that it is downloading security module or that server is in secure mode |

For your server to show in the server browser, more than 1 port needs to be opened. |

Careful here...you got it to show before, apparently without opening any ports. I always had trouble with this and just turned off the firewall on my router. I run a good software firewall on the machine itself. Since most router firewalls are very vasic anyway, I didn't really need it in my setup.
When my server isn't connecting...usually reseting the router is all it needs.
This is a very good resource for setting up an hlds server...srcds also.

Hardware firewalls will always beat software firewalls at opening, closing, and stealthing ports. No doubt about that.
Software firewalls can allow / deny ports for specific applications, but slow down the computer it's on.
Ooh hang on got a text message...LMAO Aaron!!
Open 27015 UDP AND TCP!!! The TCP is used for the master browser to connect to your server, retrive it's details, so your server can be listed.
If you only open UDP, then only the actual game will work.
If you only open TCP, then only the server listing will work. |

That's just the beginning my friend...
The ports you will need are:
UDP 1200 (used for friends service)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27050 inclusive
UDP: 27015 and 27020 (default HLDS, SRCDS and HLTV port)
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)
Just opening port 27015 will not allow friends (not that it works anyway ), auth server connection or voice comm.
Some day...I will properly tackle this again...just not today. |

Those are outbound mostly chips, you don't need to configure a router for that by default all outbound ports are open. |

okay..now i need help with admin mod!!
when i made my dod server, i just used GFCscape to put the dod files into the HLserver folder. that works perfectly fine, and i can make the server run, no prob. but when i try to install adminmod to the file, at the first screen you see where it asks do you want to put it in 1) your HL game 2) your steam accout, but there should be a third one for your hlserver, and it doesnt register the folder |
