Win XP Pro x64
ATI Radeon x300/x550/x1050
Just reboots when I play TFC. No warning, no event viewer message, nothing.
Tried updating and downgrading the video drivers. Removed every reference to ATI in the file system and registry and did a clean install of drivers. pfft.
If I run TFC in software mode instead of OpenGL, it runs for about 20 minutes or so. But in OpenGL or D3D it's 10 seconds max. Then reboot.
Any suggestions? |

Sounds like a heat issue...check your power supply. |

I upgraded my CPU heatsink recently. Also have run SpeedFan in logging mode; the temp never gets more then 3-5 degrees hotter then when I start the game before the crash. I've also run everything with the case open just for laughs. pfft.
How do I check my PSU? |

Here's the system specs anticipating the next question:
Systemax
(1) Mid-Tower ATX Chassis w/ 350W PS D945P Motherboard (LGA 775)
New Zalman big old copper thing CPU fan.
(1) Microsoft Windows XP Professional X64
(1) Intel Pentium D 820 Processor 2.8GHz
(1) 512MB PC4200 533MHz DDR2 Memory (upgraded to 1.5 GB)
(1) 80GB 7200RPM 3G SATA II Hard Drive (+ second 80GB HDD)
(1) Radeon X300SE 128MB PCI-Express (1DVI / 1VGA)
(1) 52X32X52 CDRW Drive Black
(1) DVD-ROM - no burner.
(1) 9-in-1 USB Card Reader
Is it possible that with the extra HDD and DVD I've maxed out my PSU? Is there a way to figure the power req's for each component?
Is there a test of the power draw on the PSU?
Any help is really appreciated. |

Just an update. I downloaded ATITools (http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/) and UNDERclocked my video card. Got thru 3 straight games without a problem - first time in a long time I've gotten thru more then 20 minutes without a reboot in the arse.
Assuming it's related to power, then the underclocking is lowering the watts req's by the card. However, underclocking would also work if this is related to vid card temp as well. I'll post an update when the new PS arrives for the techocurious. If after installing it I turn the video card back to normal settings (then overclock it) and nothing happens, it was an underpowered PS for sure.
Peace. |

I might try that to help fix my Hellgate London problem. I can play for about 10 minutes before just a straight crash with no error, and up until that point, I freeze with a sound loop for about 30 seconds, twice every few minutes. |

Dem,
If you have a newer Vid card then ATItools can show you temp of the card to diagnose that as the problem.
Also, try the power calculator tool above (every HW option is not in there, so you have make some educated guesses). If your wattage req's are close to the limit on the PS, underclocking should help if my case is any indication. |

That power calculator didn't have any of my hardware, I have nvidia, and I haven't noticed any unusual spikes in anything while I play it. The settings on Hellgate London are lower than that of Call of Duty 4 which doesn't do any of what Hellgate London does. I don't get it, and the support staff are being gay and not answering. I gave them a break for the thanksgiving weekend, so it's almost been 7 days now and no reply when it should've been 9 hours. So I might have to have a few words with them. |

Verdict:
Power Supply. Just swapped out the 350W for a 550W, then reconnected my DVD player, seriously overclocked my video card and switched from software mode back to OpenGL. Can't seem to replicate the problem.
Also the new PS has a 120mm fan instead of the ~80mm fan - it's a monster. Has to result in a cooler case, the fan points straight down at the CPU heatstink.
That is all. |
