My brother has that same problem with Afrin, and he's been taking that stuff probably 5+ times a day now for over 2 years. He has constant allergies and can never breathe out of his nose. He started using it just a little at first so he could breathe better, but now he's like addicted to the stuff. It's actually damaged his sense of smell some too. I'm sure its doing horrible damage to his nasal cavities. I keep telling him to get some damn allergy meds from the doctor to help him out, but he just wont listen because the nose spray helps, regardless of what it might be doing to him in the long run. |
If he doesn't stop using it for about a week at this point, he won't get any effect out of it. That's why you have to stop using it every couple of days, because if you don't it won't work as well. He can get prescription nasal sprays that'll work if you use them every day. |

You guys that are talking about recreational dosages of Robotussin should definitly read up on it before/if you try it. I've tried "robo-tripping" on the syrup and imo it's not that great. You feel real disconnected from the world and really high. Like an odd cross between THC and mushrooms, but nothing like the two. Personally I don't really like it, it's not fun, but not bad, it's just kinda... "meh".
Check this out for more info:

The chemical in it that actually gets you high is called DXM.
Erowid.com is a great site to research any kind of psychoactive substance. It has tons of information on virtually everything. I always research the hell out of a drug before I try it. And really, I've done just about everything you can think of more than once in my younger days. Today I don't do anything rather than drink or smoke a little bud occasionally with friends.
Those were my wilder years full of ups and downs, but no regrets |

In case anyone is too lazy/stupid to click that link (seriously erowid is THE place to go for information) and also is curious about DXM, make damn sure that Dextromorphan HBr is the ONLY active ingredient. Lots of cough products contain other things like acetominophen or guafesin that are fin in normal doses, but too much can seriously hurt you.
Also, DXM has been known to cause false positives for PCP on drug tests, so. |

Yes, I can't stress what Audhumla said enough, make DAMN SURE the ONLY thing in that syrup is DXM. Lots of stupid kids have drank entire bottles that contain other ingredients and have ended up in the hospital or worse. |
