Valve Confirms Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 Launch Date
by Chris Remo Jun 15, 2007 12:16am CST
Last night, Valve representatives confirmed to Shacknews that the studio's upcoming trio of Source-powered games will ship for all announced platforms on October 9, 2007. The suite, sold at retail and through Valve's Steam download service, will consist of the shooter sequel Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the team-based multiplayer game Team Fortress 2, and the action/puzzle game Portal. Valve is handling development of the games on PC and Xbox 360, with EA UK's Chertsey, Surrey office bringing the titles to PlayStation 3.
Shacknews has had extensive hands-on time with all three upcoming games. Check out our Half-Life 2: Episode Two preview and our Portal preview, and check back next week for impressions of Team Fortress 2.
Today's news follows rumors originating last month that the PlayStation 3 versions of the games would be delayed into 2008. Valve's Doug Lombardi noted to Shacknews that development has been progressing well on all three platforms.
Electronic Arts is distributing the games at retail as a package entitled Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, which also includes the original Half-Life 2 and last year's Half-Life 2: Episode One. It will sell for $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Previously, the company intended to sell a slimmer package, The Black Box, which would not include Half-Life 2 or Half-Life 2: Episode One, but those plans were cancelled last month. It is expected that Steam customers will retain the option to purchase only the newly-released games. |

As I recall, Valve also announced it's release back in Feb.....I'd rather they announce nothing instead of a date and miss it......will be waiting to see what happens |

I'd get both. It would be kind of weird, since neither or exactly a recreation of the TFC expirience, but they're both good.
BTW, is Chips Fun House gonna venture into TF2 or FF? |

i believe the unofficial rumors are that CfH would head to TF2, assuming it does. |

I thought the rumours were that it would head to neither.
And, even if it doesn't, that's stopping nobody from taking up the banner, and merely starting up a CfH server on their own. Or it could be sorta like Keegs, where even though the server is dead, the community lives on on another server (sort of.) |

I have previously said that I wouldn't give up on TFC. As stated above, neither of these games will be an "exact" port to the HL2 engine. These games WILL be different...similar, yet different.
Many here don't even have HL2...it would be unfair to dump those that don't. We came together as a TFC community...and that's how we'll die.
I can almost promise you that I'll have a server up...somewhere...day one when one of these comes out. Even if it happens to be my home server that I can run other HL2 mods on...we'll definitely venture into these somewhere...somehow. |

I'm sure I'll give TF2 a play, but Fortress Forever is more what I expect in a TFC sequel. HL2 graphics and updated player abilities and balancing. TF2 looks too much like a comic book action scene. I was really hoping for graphics that were closer to "realism" |
