Ok I bought a new 80GB because my 60GB has only 20% left. heres my Q. What should I use this for?
What I mean is some peps say I should use 1 just for storage such as for pics/wallpapers, and other files. Some say I should use it for only games(since I play a lot of GB robbing games) and also wich one should I have the operating sys. on? the primary or the slave? Im looking for suggestions!? so fire away! Very Happy Good Idea

Unless you want to completely reinstall everything you have...the new drive should be the slave to your primary which is already configured. Don't just "move" your games to this drive if you wish to use it mostly for games...your registry will be a mess and most things probably won't work. Although, steam is one game folder you can move with little consequence. The operating system should always be on your primary drive, preferably in it's own partition.

Based on your needs, it's probably best to partition this drive into 2 40 gig pieces. One partition for your continued gaming needs...the other for storage.

Of course, if you're willing to reinstall everything, what I just said is moot. Very Happy

I portioned my HDD's off.

I kept my 80GB for Utilities and Windows
and I sectioned off my 160Gb into 3 sections for Games, My sister's stuff (how she gets on, I'll never know), and other misc. stuff I may get.

And the Gaming Portion is 70Gb, and it's half way full!
Seriously, that section really will get big, ESPECIALLY if you've got a large variety of games you play, you install Mods often, or you're getting newer games (some go up to 4-5 Gb's these days).

If i decide to put my games on an external HD can i still play them well, as opposed to having them on my internal primary?

If I have 2 internal HD, can i play games well on the slave as opposed to the primary?

^^^^ computer noob!

1) I recommend putting the games on your Internal HDD.
The SATA or PATA runs faster then a USB 2.0 will.
I don't even think you can play on an external.

2) Yes, you can.
Personally, it doesn't matter which one you use, slave or primary.
I never saw a major difference.
Some can say differently, however

A game like tfc should run fine on an external 2.0 7200 rpm drive. Don't even try with something like HL2...it'll play, but not well. There should be a slight (but not noticable) improvement using a separate drive or partition other than the primary where the OS is stored. This because if your games and OS are on the same drive, the game will be looking for reads and writes as the OS is doing the same with the swap file. This is where extra ram helps.

I always move my swap file to the second drive (helps with performance). I also move the "mydocuments" folder, and my mail storage folder. This way if my OS gets hosed 90% of my stuff is safe. Smile
