the other day, i hooked my bands recording equiptment to my computer, and accidently turned the volume up instead of the low EQ knob, and BOOM! my sound card was almost instantly shot. is there any way to un-shoot it? or do i just need to buy a new card. i've allready relaced the drivers. i'm thanking god i didn't blow my headphones, as they are double the price of a great sound card lol

What do you mean by shot...no sound whatsoever Question

Check what input is selected to play sound...it may just be stuck on "line in"...just a suggestion.

the sound comes in very garbled up, you can still hear, but it sounds like it's turned up way too loud, and kept that quality.

turn your computer volume down if it sounds loud/garbled.
fry's electronics has a usb soundcard w/ either 5.1 or 6.1(forgot which) from just 2 jacks.
also thinkgeek.com has a large headphonejack-to-usb adaptor for connecting things like electric guitar to the computer.

im going to be doing beat making and DJing so the above 2 and a good midi keyboard are on my list.

Newegg and Fry's are the best!
Good prices, good support.

I wish Fry's had kept those popcorn machines, instead of getting those cafe's.
I liked those machines.
You got a whole tub-full for a buck!

Well CK, I reccomend buying a new card.
Otherwise, you can go with on-board audio, but that's not recomended, especially since you're in a band.
But what you can also do is get one of those Head-sets with a sound card already in it.

I'm not sure how it will work, but I'm curious what it's like.
Just be sure not to turn the volume up again with those.
ouch.wav

BTW Gilliam, it's 5.1 Surround. there is no 6.1
But only 2 jacks? Are you sure? You normally need 6,

I think there's 6.1 surround sound, it'd just involve 7 speakers and I can't figure out where the 7th would go unless it was a second subwoofer.

EDIT: I found the difference
Quote:
"So what's the difference between 5.1 and 6.1?"
Basically, the difference lies in the surrounds. With 5.1, you have 5 full channels of sound (front left and right, center, surround left and right) and the .1 channel of low bass (subwoofer). With a 6.1 system, your receiver has an additional rear channel of sound, which it directs to an additional back surround speaker (or in some cases, a pair of back surround speakers).
