Based on your description of the problem, ANYTHING could be wrong. You'll have to be far more specific plz. Can you eliminate anything that could cause the problem to narrow this down for us?

what model laptop are you using?
are you running wireless or not?
did you check for viruses?

have you tried replacing the headlight fluid?
do you have a router that assigns LAN ip addresses to your computers? make sure its set to get an ip automatically.
the keyboard may be loosing signal, have you tried tinfoil over the keys?
use a different network cable, the one you have might have dust in it.

The model number is PP01L, I don't have wireless, and yes.

have you tried replacing the headlight fluid? Huh?

do you have a router that assigns LAN ip addresses to your computers? Yes

the keyboard may be loosing signal, have you tried tinfoil over the keys? No......how would my keyboard by loseing a signal? It's in my laptop.

use a different network cable, the one you have might have dust in it.I've used many different network cables, including the one that's connected to the computer I'm using right now.

1) a hub router (net splitter) between the wall and the computers, and don't net work the computers. You may need to order a second net service from you ISP for this.

--OR--

2) take both off the internet and network them together, once that works, hook the net back up and enable connection sharing on both computers.

What spiderman said Good Idea

Also, try shutting the power off your cable box and router and let them reset themselves, that could be one solution.

Make sure your router accepts the mac address of the laptop, and if it isn't in the list of accepted connections, put it in manually (this shouldn't be the problem since its corded, unless the default settings for security has been changed, but you never know.....)

Use common sense as well, fiddle around with your settings, you seem to know what your doing. If it still doesn't work, reinstall drivers for your ehternet card in your laptop. If at this point it still doesn't work, you should consider that either the laptop has a virus or something physically wrong with its ethernet card and/or a port on your router doesn't work (if your main computer can't get the internet through any port, your router is broken most likely)

Gil, I would love to know how you missed the 'b' key and hit the 'f' key. But yeah, try a different cable, make sure you have the right kind of cable, etc..
