Since we were spamming in the wrong thread I want to start a chop hop discussion. my first question is how Illegal is it really and what all does it require to perform flawlessly |

you almost *have* to use _special to make it work right. Else you have to bind +duck -duck to your mousewheel.
its *very* illegal because it allows you to keep up speed above the max built into the game. basically, your 'landing' from a jump involves you crouching and jumping so you touch the ground for such a fraction of a second the ground can't slow you at all. |

It gets you an advantage far beyond normal bhop. There are a number of things in TFC that can be done that VAC won't get you for, but are definetly cheats. An anti-conc script can easily be made without any 3rd party hook, but should that be legal? Absolutely not. It's an exploit, one valve seems to be unable to fix.
Unable != unwilling.
I know conc jumping, rocket jumping, pipejumping, bhop, and so on can all be seen as exploits too. But those ones in particular have been limited by Valve. That's why bhop as it is now is no big deal. It used to be crazy, Valve knew that, and limited its possibilites.
Chop-hop = illegal. |

Ok, but suppose(and yeah, I'm making it a grey area....sue me)...a player practices doing it manually(which should be relatively obvious...as they don't/can't do it on each jump)....but gets DECENT at it(again, it's obvious that they aren't using a script to do it). Is it still considered illegal? I admit, it's not easy to do, but with enough practice, everything can look easy.
Like I said, it should be obvious, even to a casual observer, what is scripted and what isn't. I for one, would have NO problem posting my config files. All 10 of them(the main one, and the 9 class configs). I just don't think anyone would be interested in seeing all that. Of course, if someone is suspected of cheating with a scripted chop-hop, someone will claim the configs the posted are bogus, since they don't show the calling of a script. |

If you missed one jump, you'd lose all that extra speed, and would have to conc or whatever to get them back.
With scripts they visibly duck (from 1st person view) very rapidly, so with a demo it would be easy enough to see.
Nothing wrong with tapping crouch right before each jump, since perfecting that to have it constant would be near impossible.
(note: the lattermost section is my belief as a tfc player not a CfH admin, and shouldn't be taken as a ruling on chop-hop.) |

Actually, I usually crouch while in the air, right before the landing, and it usually works well for me. I'm not sure if it equates to the chophop, but it's my variation, and it works well for me. |

Not really, it's so hard that you need _special. Heck, I can slam my space bar more effectively than using the wheel. |

things considerd chop-hop Are: _special scripts, +duck on mouse wheel, and any "wait" scripts contaning more then 3 +duck;wait;-duck;
Everything els Is fine in my book.
BTW: Jumping is not involved with chop-hop. |
