Hi, if you ever have a problem with an ATI video card, and the screen stays black like its in sleep mode, I have an answer you have been awaiting for.

-------------------------

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking (tap F8 key a split second before the Windows XP logo appears during boot up) and choose "Safe Mode with
Networking"
(this is the part where I went wrong for the first time. Just regular Safe Mode won't let you get to your login screen.) from the menu.

-------------------------

From here, you'll be able to get online and download the latest drivers from www.ati.com. (I'm going to recommend the control panel version, not CCC! Just to avoid .net issues for now). Once it is downloaded, run the software package; It will uncompress into C:\ATI\Support\(version of the driver).

-------------------------

Step 1.) Open device manager (Start -> Run -> Type Step 2.)devmgmt.msc and press [enter]
Step 3.)Expand Display Adapters
Step 4.)Double click on the first device
Step 5.)Click Driver tab
Step 6.)Click Update Driver
Step 7.)Check "No, not at this time" (If Windows asks you to search for the driver over the Internet).
Step 8.)Click Next
Step 9.)Check "Install from a list..."
Step 10.)Click Next
Step 11.)Uncheck "Search removable media.."
Step 12.)Check "Include this location.."
Step 13.)Click Browse
Step 14.)Navigate to C:\ATI\Support\(The appropriate folder)\Driver\2KXP_INF
Step 15.)Click OK and click Next and Finish

-------------------------

When you restart the computer, the problem SHOULD disappear. It seems related to the default Microsoft video driver (at least my situation was). Once you get it updated, you won't have this problem again unless you somehow are forced to use the default MS driver again.

-------------------------

If this problem DOES NOT work, it may seem you have a broken video card.

-Mario

Nirvana! It seems as you post in every single post to... Quit complaining. If it got to that big of a matter. Chips would have said something right?

P.S. I'm helping people out with something if this problem is/does occur.
