March 2006
By Marc McEntegart: Friday 11 November 2005, 10:50
THE EXPANSION to the massively successful Half-Life 2 is to be delayed until February or March of next year.
Halflife2.net is reporting that Aftermath will not only miss its release date, but will be pushed back by up to four months. This has been confirmed by Doug Lombardi, director of marketing at Valve. Lombardi said of the delays in his confirmation of the report that the firm is working hard to finish the episode and the target release is next year.
While many fans will be disappointed, delays in the Half-Life series have generally led only to good things. Half-Life itself was totally broken down and rebuilt by an unsatisfied Valve, leading to a much delayed game. The sequel Half-Life 2 as well was delayed for more than a year, though both games were eventually released to critical acclaim, so Aftermath's prospects are better given the delay we'd say.
More recently we saw the release of Day of Defeat Source, the Source engine update for Half-Life's World War II mod. DOD Source was repeatedly bumped back but ended including features far in excess of original predictions.
In the light of previous delays leading only to better and progressively more popular games, many have taken news of Aftermath's delays as no more than assurance that Valve is working on another spectacular release. It is testament to Valve's reputation that four month delays do so little to harm a prospective release. |

Doesn't surprise me...and I'm not too sure I really care.
I was kinda disappointed with HL2 ... overall. I doubt I'll pay for this expansion. |

To me this just means it will be that much better when it is released. |

See, this is why some people hate Valve, they screw everything up and make us wait, like HL2. Soposed to have been out 1 1/2 years before it actually came out. Plus sometimes Steam BURNS PEOPLE!!!!1 (cough cough) |
