May I Request a Remodel of our beloved forums  . like on the other forums I go to they have it where you have your posts everything is the same except there on the bottom, theres a "quick reply" where you dont need to hit the reply button just type in that and submit! |

I have generally strayed away from mods and add-ons to the forums. The reason being that when the forums need upgrading, like any software...many of the mods need to be reinstalled. This becomes a major pain.
I think I found one that is quick to install and would do the trick. My only fear is it will allow for easier and quicker spamming...something we already have enough of.  |

Howling was obviously the first one to notice that a Quick Reply function has now been added to the forums. He can thank Kibbles.
You won't have access to the smileys, post tags, font size or color or the ability to add or take away your signature from a post when using this.
It's just what it says it is...a quick reply with nothing fancy. |

Anshinritsumai suggested a link for Xfire Messenger in user profiles recently. You've suggested some good stuff also. The difference between what's been added and what has not is simple.
The suggestions from you two are complicated...often involving editing numerous files by hand. And since there are 6 different themes users can choose from...the files needing to be edited is multiplied by that. If I screw up just one of these edits...it destroys the forum layout for that theme, or maybe all of them depending on the file where the error is.

12 files to edit...for just one theme. Where you see files in the "templates' folder...those files would have to be edited for the other 5 themes...or 25 more files. So now...37 files have to be edited by hand.
Worst yet...these forums are software that is upgraded on a fairly regular basis. Many of the files I mentioned above that would have been edited by hand would have to be edited again when/if they're replaced during an upgrade.
The changes I have made...are very simple and rather quick. Adding this quick reply function involved editing only 8 files for all of the themes and could easily be redone if they were changed during an upgrade. I spend a lot of time keeping an eye on the servers and the forums...constantly striving to keep them up to date and run with some sort of order. I just don't have time for all this fancy stuff...as nice as it would be. |
