I am trying to get a CS server up using the Steam Deticated Server but it only shows up 1 out of every 20 or so tries. I've tried to get my IP static, I've tried to reinstall it, I've tried using my other DSL box, I've tried taking my numerous firewalls off, I've tried just about everything I could think of, but it doesnt seem to work. My old Digital Paint Ball server used to work great, this on the other hand, doesn't.
PS. My DPB server doesnt work anymore either... I wonder why. |

I just now tried putting up a cs server using the same program, and couldn't find it, but could connect via the connect command. |

Can someone try helping me...?
DPB worked fine until recently, idk y.
Of course it shows up on yours demasu, U have the lan IP, i need to find the net IP.
I think its the ports, cause they change all the time. Does anyone know how to keep ports stable in a Westel Model 2200 or Westell Versalink 327W instead of being a random number in the 50000's. I want it to be like 27016 or 27015. |

That's the thing I could only connect via the connect command and the ip it showed me through the gui, it wasn't on the server list. |

Cause its on lan, it doesnt show up on internet games. Check your lan tab, should come up there.
I think i fixed it, i needed to play around with my modem allllll day today. Actually I had to play with both of em... Oh well, probably not a static ip, but a static port is a start. |

need some info on your internet connection hardware. go like this...
1. network card in the comp(brand/model) may not be necessary but so what.
2. network cable, is it ok? or is it wireless.
3. hubs/switches between you and the router
4. router, brand and model, and firmware revision if you can find it.
5. modem type> cable/dsl, brand and model.
6. what ISP?
general tips:
>>update your router firmware(the operating program inside the router) to the latest version. the maker's webpage will ask for model. newer versions WILL support newer functions that the older firmware could not. an example is the SMC baricade i have; on the last firmware update it gave me built in DynamicDNS access(see making a server on a dynamic IP)i no longer need to use my dynamic dns program on my comp, the router does it for me now.
>>replace or re-crimp ethernet network cables that are missing the retaining clip(unless its like my bro's comp always being takenaway, quick lan disconnect )
>>check steampowered forums for similar issues, check network card, hub/switch/router MFR websites for troubleshooting info. |

Thanks for the help Gil, but I believe I fixed it, I had to go to my router IP and change some minor things around. Ill never have a static IP, but I can always do that DYNS or w/e its called if I feel it would be better. All I was trying to do was get a static port, because for some reason, it would pick random ports inbetween 50000 and 51000 and most didn't seem to work with half-life hosting. If any problems arrise, I will post allllllll that information.
Kthx |
